Some Winter Wellness Tips from me

A couple of things to try if you are feeling the winter lurgy might be heading your way this season..

It seems that everyone around me is dropping like flies at the moment, and I am feeling a constant tickle in my throat, warning me of potential viruses to come.

But all this coughing and sneezing has encouraged me to break out my 1-year-old Fire Cider Vinegar. Around this time last year, I ran a Winter Wellbeing day with the wonderful Gina from Sunshine Yoga. On this lovely, relaxing retreat day, we made Fire Cider Vinegar. I also made a bottle, but perhaps a flu-free winter meant I didn't use it, so I am incredibly excited to try this wonderfully mature elixir.

Traditionally an immune tonic, fire cider vinegar is really growing in popularity in recently. There was a great story about a company that tried to trademark the name and ban others from using it. But they were quickly silenced by Rosemary Gladstone, a medical herbalist and others, who had been using the name for decades already.

A powerful combination of raw apple cider vinegar, with the mother if you can find it, plus garlic, ginger, horseradish, chilli, citrus and herbs. Ingredients known to be anti-bacterial, help to reduce inflammation, may help with oxidative stress as well as containing beneficial bacteria, yeast and enzymes and have been linked to supporting immunity and digestion.

Though the science is mixed on the provable medicinal effects of Fire Cider Vinegar, one sip will tell you it is definitely doing something.

Adding in some Immune supporting foods

Can it be as simple as that? well no, probably not. Like everything, the immune system works in connection with all the other systems of the body. What we eat is one factor but our immune system is also heavily affected by stress and lack of sleep along with our gut health and more.

But its a good place to start!
